What would you consider to be the greatest achievement and highlight of your Presidency?
It is very difficult to pick one as it is the work of a team. I am sure everyone will have their own opinion of a milestone from this last couple of years. The EUROMAT Conference is always one of the most relevant activities and consequently the success of EUROMAT 2019 is without doubt something to underline. I have been involved in Materials Science for many years, first working for a glass company and then pursuing a career in academia. I have been involved with research (Small Scale Mechanics), teaching and mentoring. I also served as the President of SF2M, a founding member of FEMS, from 2017 to 2019.
How do you feel about taking up the role as FEMS President?
This is a very challenging position with great responsibility as FEMS has taken up a leading role in Materials Science.
Thanks for giving me the opportunity to chair FEMS during these last two years. It has been a great honour and I am really grateful for all the expertise and knowledge I got from all of you.
I am really pleased for having met so many nice people, I will be always in debt and willing to support FEMS.

With the motto I’m a material person and in the frame of the Worls Materials Day, the specialist Marta Mohedano , member of SOCIEMAT gave a talk on November the 8th at IES Lope de Vega (Granada),focusing onthe gender issue and explaining to the students the steps to become researchers. The activity finished with a visit to the Autogyro manufacturing company located nearby, where students learnt about the materials used in aircraft.

As in previous years, SOCIEMAT joined other member societies of FEMS to celebrate the World Materials Day. The World Materials Day event was hold at the Polytechnic University of Madrid on November 6.
